28,385 Jelly Beans: For the Kidd in all of us

28,385 Jelly Beans: For the Kidd in all of us

“It is a curious thing, the death of a loved one. We all know that our time in this world is limited. And yet it is always a surprise when it happens to someone we know. It is like walking up the stairs to your bedroom in the dark, and thinking there is one more stair than there is. Your foot falls down, through the air, and there is a sickly moment of dark surprise as you try and readjust the way you thought of things.” ~ Lemony Snicket

Sunday is the one year anniversary of the death of Kidd Kraddick, I hope you will join me in continuing his legacy of paying it forward by sharing your kind heart with the world. Do it for Kidd

Today has been molasses. The hours oozing by in a slow thick dark sludge. It was only when I got to the station and saw the grief counselor and the shell shocked faces of my co workers that my denial gave way to the breathtaking impossible reality that one of our own was gone forever.

Kidd Kraddick was the Mount Everest of radio personalities. Over the weekend he reached even higher and touched the face of God.  This was not just the death of a singular radio talent. His staggering loss marks the end of an era.

How do you cope? How do you proceed? How do you simply find enough oxygen to continue to breathe?

If there is anything that can be said about Kidd's shocking death it is that it highlights what he stood for. Life. He lived his to the fullest and with Kidds Kids he made it sweeter for so many others.

If we were to measure our time on this earth in jelly beans,  we get about 28,385. Give or take.... Kidd got 19,357 and he shared every single one of them with his coworkers, with his family, friends and with the world. He may be gone from the earth but his generous spirit will live & love forever. For those of us left standing, numb and grieving know this: if we each play our beans right we will always be a Kidd at heart.
