Les Misérables At the Wyly Theatre

Posted July 9th, 2014 @ 6:13am

This past weekend, I had the pleasure of seeing Dallas Theater Company’s production of Les Misérables. Les Mis is my favorite musical and I’ve been fortunate to see it on Broadway, as well as locally, a few times. While all stage performances are unique in their own ways, the word unique is a true understatement in this case. Under the direction of Liesl Tommy, Les Mis has been updated and energized. The music and story remain the same, but the costuming and set designs are re-imagined. Some examples: Javert and his men are decked out in riot gear, Cosette’s a hipster, the revolution is planned at a coffee shop (complete with a MacBook). Some musical theatre purists might disagree, but for me, it really worked. The venue was fantastic as well (it was my first time seeing a show at the Wyly Theatre).

If you haven’t seen Les Mis or if you want someone you know to experience this musical, I definitely recommend this production.

Les Misérables is running at the Wyly Theatre at the AT&T Performing Arts Center (2400 Flora St., Dallas, TX 75201) until August 17, 2014.  For tickets, call 214-880-0202 or head to www.DallasTheaterCenter.org.
