Every Friday at 8:10am we feature a new beer and taste it. Me buddy Chad give our opinions however novice and/or snobby they may be. Why? Because it's fun, and haven't you've always wanted to try out that weird looking beer on the top shelf? So have we. We'll do it for you. Everyone wins! You can also play along at home, or simply buy after we try. Make sure you pick your beer up at Spec's. That's where we shop!
Our rating scale is SUPER simple. Anyone can understand it. It's a scale of 1 to 10.
1 = Ass Juice
10 = Unicorns and Rainbows
Depending on the flavor, packaging, hoppiness, maltiness, and pure snobbery, we place the beers somewhere on this sliding scale. Purchase the beers ahead of time, and play along!

I am writing this blog sooooooooo buzzed it's not even funny. Looking for a picture? HA! There isn't one.
Michael Peticolas is amazing. If you haven't tried any of his beers you're an asshat. This beer is 10% alcohol and drinks like 6%. Hell, it drinks like NO%. It's amazing. And it tastes like the holidays.

I gotta give it to Chad, every time I forget to bring a beer in, he brings in something EXCEPTIONAL!
I advice each and everyone of you reading this to go out and purchase this NOW. The NAME of it is 'Enjoy By 12-21-12.' And they mean it. Apparently hops at one time were used as a sort of preservative for beer? And in this form, they are, but only for a limited time. Neat idea.
Probably my favorite thing about this beer is the aroma. It's full of spice, citrus, and even pine! That's why I mentioned on-air that by just smelling it I got into the "Christmasy mode." Tasting it will take you over the top. It's been blasted FULL of hops, so heed that warning. You can't drink a lot of it, and it packs a powerful punch. I shared half a bottle with Chad and I was slightly buzzed! But, talk about holiday cheer. This beer is full of it. But only until ARMAGEDDON!!!!

After what happened when Deep Ellum was last in the studio (ahem, it was my birthday. ahem, I got drunk) I was a tad trigger shy to have them in again. But, Tait and headmaster brewer Drew (try saying THAT out loud) assured me that I'd be safe. And I was! Thanks Guys!
It's the 1 year anniversary of DEBC opening their doors and bringing wonderful tasting local beer to Dallasites, so we had to mark the occasion. DEBC has by not only producing a limited edtion beer, Pollenator Bock, but by also throwing a big ol' birthday party. Here's the deets. Hope to see you there tomorrow! I'm totally going.
It also happens that the Hostess factory is shutting down for good as of today, so Twinkies may be no more. So, I asked Tait to bring in some Twinkies to go with our beer. You know, as they say, "Out with the Twinkies, In With The Pollenator!"
It made for a most unique tasting.
First, the beer: to be honest, I almost wish they'd make a candle out of this stuff. The aroma is AMAZING. Light and fresh, and with a bouquet of honey and wildflowers, and well.... BEER. It was right up my alley. The taste had a bit of a heavy quality to it, with some subtle sweetness, but obviously a honey sweetness, which I don't mind because of all sweet tastes, honey is my favorite. For me, I think this is best described as a "Pairing Beer." It almost BEGS for a peppered steak or a sausage dish to round out the honey flavor. By itself, it definitely comes of as a 'Celebration Beer.' I can tell DEBC is celebrating the Texas landscape, given the honey, and the fact that this is a special, sipping type beer. Sip this, and contemplate how lucky we are to have such a wonderful local brewery that has been in business for a whole YEAR. Congrats guys!
Oh, and the Twinkies: Um, my teeth hurt. And why in the hell did our parents let us eat this much sugar when we were CHILDREN??? Did they WANT to torture themselves? Good god. Wow.
