Do you remember Space Ghost Coast To Coast? It was my favorite cartoon and to this day I have a special love for Brak. He was such a spaz with his songs about monkeys who did his homework, cucumbers,  and....SIGH.... beans.

 

Like Brak, I too am a bean acolyte. Baked to be exact. They are, to me, the tangible culinary equivalent to Pablo Neruda's exquisite Socks. In other words items that are often taken for granted until you really need them. Sometimes it takes a poet from Chile to help you realize the power of the little things that make life special and beautiful.

I love beans so much that when a magnificent bowl presents itself, there will always be a grand thank you at the end of it... which is why Boston Market got this letter.

Hi my name is jessie (yes that is a lower case j because I am not uppity). I am writing you a love letter to tell you how much I absolutely ADORE you for bringing your patented and utterly delicious and addictive baked beans back for summer.

They are my absolute favorite treat and I was ELATED to see them there last night when I dropped by to buy some dinner for a homeless man who was begging on the corner. He didn’t want money, just food. You were so close so I pulled over and
couldn’t believe my luck. I came in to purchase something for someone else and ended up getting a little something extra for me. Is it ok to confess I will be your bean whore for the rest of the summer? Too late, TMI but that is how happy you make me.
