The excitement rattling in my bones makes me feel like I am 7 all over again but, instead of a looking for Santa to provide a coveted Barbie town house w/ elevator on a string or a Baby Alive who pooped real apple sauce, I am giddy anticipating Becks new album.
I have been regularly blogging about it and posting videos as I find them Check out all the fans who did Do We? We Do. And there is sadly only one single video so far for There's A Sarcophagus In Egypt With Your Name On It. And now we have Old Shanghai
Beck Hansen's has written a preface to his new work in the New Yorker highlighting the magic behind his new Song Reader which will consist of notation for 20 unrecorded and unreleased songs. It will be made up of 108 pages, featuring 20 individual song booklets.
"Writing the songs included here, I began to wonder: How do you ask people to take the time to learn to play them? Part of the answer involves acknowledging that some people won't be interested in making that leap. We've attempted to make a book that's able to stand alone as an object, aside from the music. My appreciation for the ability of songwriters to avoid those pitfalls drove a lot of the writing here; still, I have little idea whether any of these songs managed to find that line. In the right hands, maybe they'll be able to come a little closer to it."
Beck sent out a sample song sheet via email for a song called Old Shanghai and the staff at The New Yorker posted their interpretation of it and I am in love.
and now there is THIS version by a Beck fan on Youtube...PS Dear local DFW bands...where YOU at? Get on this so I can post your videos too
