Denton County Outlaws(mens roller derby)
My friend Quinn & I went out to Waxahachie last Sunday for brunch at The Catfish Plantation which is legendary for the four ghosts that haunt the premises.
I even brought a single pink rose for Elizabeth who I THOUGHT was the bride who was murdered there on her wedding day. I left it for her in the powder room, the area she is known to frequent. Today I discovered that Elizabeth died of natural causes and that the house has FOUR ghosts not three that are frequently reported, it was Lola Roller a 19 year old stenographer who was murdered and not on her wedding day but for refusing the advances of a 45 year old man who was already married but who was obsessed and stalking her. She was not killed in but rather near the house and has apparently moved in.
Her murderer Dr. Harry Dowling was himself murdered the very same day she was by Lola's Uncle. You can read about it in the news piece I found here. It is in the lower right hand corner.
I took some photos of our brunch (below). The collage includes the bathroom, two of the dining areas and one of Quinn reading thru the "ghost book" which is where patrons who have had experiences or sightings can leave their stories. We read about people being caressed, and patted and even one guest who saw a the outline of a wedding dress.
The Catfish Plantation is about 30 minutes outside of Dallas in Waxahachie. Have you been there ? Along with Elizabeth and Lola the place is also haunted by a man named Will and a woman named Caroline.
Quinn & I had a delicious meal but did not experience any thing out of the ordinary...or so we thought. This morning Quinn went through some of the photographs she took and her heart skipped a beat when she got to the picture she had taken of me reading the "ghost book."
We have shown this photo to professional photographers who are simultaneously skeptical AND scared. One photographer insisted on standing about 20 feet away from me while we talked. We also sent the picture to several paranormal experts who have been analyzing it for days. I am curious if they will just say it was a glitch in Quinns iPhone....But whatever they say she & I will always wonder "what if." The Catfish Plantation is a marvel, with incredible food and the staff is beautiful and gracious. If you have never been out there I highly recommend you make the time to visit.
