My mom and I have been a team since day one. 

She suffered a stroke on 4/16 and our lives have changed forever. We are both struggling with grief and fear. But I am determined to help her find her way back to some semblance of normalcy...whatever form it takes.

It is a blessing she survived and I desperately want to ensure her quality of life. I love her so much...it is overwhelming to contemplate just how much work and courage and determination lay before us.

She has always been my light. My love. My hero. My rock. Now it is my turn to give back to her. We'll get through this. Happy Mothers Day. I love you maman.

A yankee bakery got a wonderful wild hair and decided to combine two wonders of the modern world. A croissant AND a donut. Ladies and Gentlemen the cronut could be in your gaping drooling maw if only the bakery that invented it was here in DFW...perhaps one will see this wondrous magical masterpiece and offer a Texas version to the swoomin masses. For now we can only lick the screen and dream. sigh

For the past few years I have been wanting to join forces with local rape crisis centers to organize a Slutwalk in DFW.  The image below is from Chicago's Slutwalk last year. It is the most powerful & visceral image I have ever seen from a Slutwalk participant. I was actually scared to post this because of the horrifying verbal abuse this young woman took on the original fb post. And not from men. The most abusive comments came from women.

Slutwalk started in Canada in 2011 and was conceived after authorities kept absolving rapists for their crimes by blaming  rape victims for being out late or where they shouldn't be, for being inebriated & in the words of one ignorant police officer "women should avoid dressing like sluts in order not to be victimized".

Slutshaming is a disgusting concept and if you ever find yourself referring to fellow human being as a whore or a slut who deserves to be raped PLEASE STOP and use your brain.

I was further inspired to post this after standing in line at 711 last weekend.  A teenage girl came in wearing nothing but a bikini and the woman behind me muttered "that tramp is asking to get raped" and less than hour later while watching an old episode of Law & Order SVU the characters jokingly dismissed rape in prison as karma. Just today an edgehead on fb said of the Cleveland kidnapper "chain him up sit him in a kiddie pool...rape his ass with a chainsaw blade on!!!" I questioned this line of thinking to which they defended their comment with "an eye for an eye".  But an eye for an eye leaves the world blind and perpetuates the cycle of violence.  NO ONE DESERVES TO BE RAPED not even a rapist. Sexual violence is not a joke, an outlet for community rage nor should it ever be used to control prisoner populations.  We need to change this revolting thought process across the board.
