It's a sad day in the rock & roll community. Ray Manzarek, Doors co-founder & keyboardist, passed away today in Rosenheim, Germany after a long battle with bile duct cancer. He was 74 years old. With all this talk about Sunset Strip Music Festival w/ Linkin Park this year, it's important to pay homage to all the great Doors music, now more than ever. They were very instrumental in getting the Sunset Strip scene started in the late '60's and were regular performers at Whiskey-A-Go-Go.
I remember years ago (2004 ish) when they played Hard Rock in Vegas. (minus Morrison, of course... different singer). They asked for requests, I yelled out "PEACE FROG" and they let me sing a verse from the side of the stage. I even got a thumbs up and smile from Ray. It was magical.
