From Nasty Little Man:
Vampire Weekend's Modern Vampires Of The City has entered the U.S. album chart at #1, selling nearly 135,000 copies since its May 14 release on XL Recordings.
This is the second time Vampire Weekend has achieved such an historic feat: Its sophomore album Contra also debuted at #1 in 2010, making this the first time an independent rock band has entered at #1 with two consecutive releases.
Modern Vampires Of The City also shatters the previous record for first week vinyl sales, moving nearly 10,000 units on vinyl alone and debuting at #1 on the Soundscan Vinyl Charts. Additionally, the band charted #1 at Indie, Alternative, Digital and of course the top 200.
Congrats, vamps! Check out their lyric video for "Ya Hey!"
That Ellen is hilarious. And spot on.
The band's new album Volume 3 is out now, and this video is pretty sexy.
Doin' It Right (feat. Panda Bear)
Everybody sing along:
"If you do it right
Let it go all night
Shadows on you break
Out into the light"
It needs to be the next single because I'm dying to play it on the radio. By the way, Random Access Memories is out today and I'll even go as far as to say that it's my favorite record of 2013... so far. I feel like they're bringing good Pop music back, minus the auto tune and superficial lyrics. It's the perfect dance record, atmospheric, futuristic and even beautiful at times.
Check out "Horizons," a bonus cut from the Japanese edition that sounds a lot like Pink Floyd, quite unlike the album's disco influence. This B-side channels Moroder, soundtrack music.
Yes, it's true. Yahoo has acquired Tumblr for $1.1 billion... you heard correctly... $1.1 beeeeellllion. Just what do they plan on doing with it? Ummm... make money, and lots of it, by placing ads on your Tumblr content.
I admit, I haven't gotten too into Tumblr. I started one about 2 years ago, posted twice and ditched it. With that said, I am not blind to it's hugely creative fan base, many of which have been sounding off online comparing it to Nickelback, the most derided rock band of all time. Many users posted animated GIFs of Lauren Conrad, the reality television star, and SpongeBob sobbing. “Somebody create an evil Marissa Mayer GIF,” one user demanded, referring to Yahoo’s chief exec.
Very entertaining and dramatic!
Others got aggressive: “Dear Yahoo, We bite. Sincerely Every Tumblr user. Ever.”
There were those who took to Tumblr to pen letters about their fear surrounding the deal.
Welcome to the most emotionally driven group of people on the internet. I will offer some advice- don’t screw with it. We’re like potheads- we hate change. And you’re not making any moneys off of a site with 250 users. Thank you.

Check out this video taken from their performance in Brooklyn, NY on Saturday evening.
It's a sad day in the rock & roll community. Ray Manzarek, Doors co-founder & keyboardist, passed away today in Rosenheim, Germany after a long battle with bile duct cancer. He was 74 years old. With all this talk about Sunset Strip Music Festival w/ Linkin Park this year, it's important to pay homage to all the great Doors music, now more than ever. They were very instrumental in getting the Sunset Strip scene started in the late '60's and were regular performers at Whiskey-A-Go-Go.
I remember years ago (2004 ish) when they played Hard Rock in Vegas. (minus Morrison, of course... different singer). They asked for requests, I yelled out "PEACE FROG" and they let me sing a verse from the side of the stage. I even got a thumbs up and smile from Ray. It was magical.
Check out my Top 10 favorite Doors moments, and please share yours with me in the comments section.
